Tongue Piercing: Your Questions Answered

Tongue piercing remains a timeless classic. Yet it often raises many concerns. As piercing experts in Metz, we answer your most frequently asked questions.

Does it hurt?

The answer might surprise you: tongue piercing is one of the least painful. The tongue is a muscle, but the procedure is extremely quick. The sensation is often compared to accidentally biting your tongue while eating.

The process at Owink Studio Metz

We exclusively use sterile single-use needles. Piercing guns are prohibited for this type of procedure (and for all others!).

  1. Disinfection: Pre-piercing mouthwash rinse.
  2. Marking: Verification of frenulum and veins for safe placement.
  3. The procedure: Performed in seconds with implant-grade titanium jewelry.

Healing and specific aftercare

The tongue heals quickly (approximately 4 to 8 weeks), but the first few days require discipline:

  • Diet: Stick to cold and soft foods (ice cream, lukewarm soups). Avoid spicy foods and alcohol.
  • Hygiene: Alcohol-free mouthwash after each meal.
  • Swelling: It's normal for the tongue to double in size for 3 to 5 days. This is why the initial jewelry is intentionally long.

[!IMPORTANT] It is essential to return to the studio after 10 to 15 days to change the bar for a shorter one (the "downsize"). This is crucial to protect your teeth and gums!
