Cover-up in Metz: Don't Stay with a Tattoo You No Longer Love
We all have the right to make mistakes. A tattoo from your youth, an ex's name, a poorly executed design or one that hasn't aged well... In Metz, we see many clients who are self-conscious about an old tattoo. Fortunately, cover-up (covering) is here for that.
Cover-up: A Technical Challenge
Covering a tattoo is not as simple as drawing on a blank sheet of paper. You have to work with what's already there.
- The color: Black can only be covered by black or very dark colors. You can't cover a black tribal with yellow or white!
- The size: The new tattoo will necessarily have to be larger than the old one to be able to encompass it and divert attention.
- The design: Organic designs (flowers, feathers, koi fish, textures) work better than geometric designs for concealing existing lines.
Blast-over vs Cover-up
- Cover-up: We aim to make the old tattoo disappear completely.
- Blast-over: We tattoo a new design (often black and bold) over the old one, without trying to hide it completely. The old tattoo appears in transparency in the background. This is a style very much appreciated by collectors.
Do You Need Laser Treatment First?
Sometimes, if the original tattoo is too black and too solid, a few laser removal sessions may be necessary to lighten it. This gives us much more freedom for the new design. We can advise you during your consultation in Metz.
Book an Appointment for a Consultation
For a cover-up, it is essential to come to the studio. We need to see the tattoo, its texture, its color, and discuss what is technically possible. Don't stay with this self-consciousness, come see us at Owink!
